Rules for domain names

2 April 2003 was the start for the 3.0 framework for the the Swedish top level domain, commonly known as .SE. Here we outline the most important changes.

Everyone can register an unlimited number of domain names
Individuals as well as legal persons can register an unlimited number of domain names.

Domains with only two (2) characters
Earlier demands for a minimum of at least three characters was abolished. Now everyone can register short names such as SJ, OK and LO (based on availability). It is, however, not possible to register other countries top-level domain endings or countries abbreviations according to the ISO-standard.

Domains with Swedish characters
You can now also register domain names which contain the following characters: å, ä, ö, é and ü.

Domain names with only numbers
From the 15 March 2006 it is possible to register domain names containing only digits.

Registering geographical locations
With the new framework, not only counties and states could register geographical words. You can now register your own postcode. The names of foreign states in Swedish are, however, not available for registration.

Register multiple domain names, create a portfolio
With the possibility to register multiple domain names, you can cover a broader market.
A company can for example register domain names for their various products or services. An individual can register his/her last name, place of residence or after-hours football team.

Domain registration
Registration of a .se-domain must be done by a registrar accredited by the organisation .SE. Julian Kommunikation is such a registrar.
