Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

New address? Where to I extend my contract? What is a domain? Who do I connect it to my server? Can I use ÅÄÖ?

Here we try to answer questions which often get asked. If you don't find what you're looking for, you can obviously contact us. This page will be added to as time goes on.

I've moved, where do I update my address?
You do this with .SE directly, at https://domanhanteraren.iis.se
Does it cost anything if I want to move my domain?
No, we don't charge anything extra to move your domain.
Do I own the domain name?
Yes, you order it through us, but as soon as you have paid, then you are the owner. From year two you can choose to pay the annual fee directly to .SE or let us handle the renewal for you.
I have purchased hosting with another company, how do I move my domain?
All DNS changes for your domains are done in .SE's Domänhanterare.
You find it here: http://domanhanteraren.iis.se
What does it mean to "park" a domain?
It means that it's not accessible on the internet before it gets DNS-data added. This is usually done by connecting it to a hosting account.
Why should I park my domain?
Perhaps you want to register a domain name but don't want to use it straight away. You register it so that no one else registers it before you and snatches "your" domain name. You own the domain name as long as you pay the annual fee to .SE (currently 120 SEK, excl. VAT).
Can I have a domain name with å, ä or ö or any other internationalised characters?
You order these domain names as you would order one without these characters. Read more about support for IDN-domains in different web browsers
What happens if I don't get the domain name I applied for?
Then we repay the registration fee. You can of course apply for a different domain name.
When do I receive my domain name?
If you have paid by money transfer, it depends on how long the money transfer takes. When we receive your payment, we register the domain.
Why do I need to pay before ordering?
Sometimes we receive domain registrations which are not paid for. It could be that people change their minds, but we would still be liable to pay the registration fee to .SE. Therefore we require that all domains are paid for before registration.
What is DNSSEC?
DNSSEC is a security amendment to the DNS-system which aims to protect internet users from corrupted DNS data, such as DNS cache poisoning. When DNSSEC is used, the DNS queries are digitally signed, which means that the data will not have been corrupted on the way from the DNS-server.
